Terms of Service

Acceptance of terms

By using SignScribe, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Use of the service

SignScribe provides free tools for creating a signature image via drawing, typing, or uploading. You're responsible for how you use any signature you create, including ensuring it's appropriate for the document or context you apply it to.

No warranty

SignScribe is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that a signature created here will be accepted by every recipient, institution, or legal process.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SignScribe and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the site or its tools.

A worked example: what this actually means

To make this concrete rather than abstract: if you generate a signature with SignScribe, insert it into a rental application, and the landlord's software has a compatibility quirk that causes the file to fail to open correctly, we can't be held responsible for that recipient-side technical issue — it falls outside anything within our control once the file has left your device. Similarly, if a specific institution's internal policy requires a certified digital signature rather than a simple electronic one and rejects your document on those grounds, that's a policy decision on their end, not a defect in the tool. We built SignScribe to reliably do one thing well — generate a clean signature image — and the limitation of liability above exists to keep that scope clear rather than to avoid responsibility for problems the tool itself actually causes.

Intellectual property

The SignScribe name, logo, and site design are the property of their owners. The signature images you create belong to you.

What "belongs to you" means in practice

We claim no ownership over any signature image you create using the draw, type, or upload tools. You're free to use those images for any lawful purpose — personal contracts, business documents, creative projects — without attribution to SignScribe and without any license fee. This follows naturally from the fact that we never receive or store the image in the first place; there's nothing for us to claim rights over.

Appropriate use of the tools

SignScribe is built to help you create your own signature, not to impersonate someone else's. You agree not to use the draw, type, or upload tools to recreate or forge another person's signature without their knowledge and consent, or to use any signature generated here to sign a document you don't have the legal authority to sign. These tools are meant to make legitimate signing faster and more convenient, not to enable fraud, and using them for the latter would violate applicable law well beyond just these terms — signature forgery carries serious legal consequences independent of anything stated here.

No guarantee of acceptance by third parties

While electronic signatures are broadly recognized under laws like the U.S. ESIGN Act and the EU's eIDAS regulation (see our full breakdown), we cannot guarantee that any specific recipient, bank, government agency, or court will accept a signature you create with SignScribe for a particular document. Some institutions have their own internal policies about signature formats or require a specific certified e-signature platform for certain transactions. If you're unsure whether a signature will be accepted for a specific, high-stakes purpose, check directly with the requesting party or consult a lawyer before relying on it. When in doubt, it costs nothing to ask the recipient in advance what format or platform they expect, rather than finding out after the fact that a resubmission is needed.

Service availability

SignScribe is provided free of charge and, like any web-based service, may occasionally be unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, or circumstances outside our control. We aim to keep the tools reliably available but don't guarantee uninterrupted access, and we recommend not waiting until the last minute before a deadline to generate a signature you need urgently — a five-minute buffer avoids any stress if the site happens to be mid-update right when you need it.

Third-party links and content

Our guides link to external resources for further reading on topics like electronic signature law. We don't control the content of external sites and aren't responsible for their accuracy, availability, or privacy practices — check the specific site's own terms and privacy policy before relying on information found there.

Termination

Since SignScribe doesn't require an account, there's no user account to terminate. We reserve the right to restrict access to the site for anyone found to be using it in a way that violates these terms, such as attempting to abuse the tools for fraudulent purposes.

Governing considerations

These terms are intended to be read alongside our privacy policy, which explains in detail how (and how little) data is handled when you use the site. Nothing in these terms is intended to override or conflict with your rights under applicable consumer protection or data protection law in your jurisdiction. If any specific provision of these terms is found unenforceable in a particular jurisdiction, the remaining provisions continue to apply in full.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
